Dat Dere (歌の採掘坑 4)
ファンキー・ジャズを代表するピアニスト兼作曲家にボビー・ティモンズがいます。
彼はアート・ブレーキー＆ジャズ・メッセンジャー、キャノンボール・アダレイ・クインテット在籍中にヒット曲を次々と世に送り出しました。
彼のヒット曲の一つに『Dat Dere』があります。
1960年に発表された彼のデビュー・アルバム「This Here Is Bobby Timmons」に収録された曲で、翌年、オスカー・ブラウン・ジュニアが自身で詞をつけて彼のデビュー・アルバム「Sin & Soul and Then Some」で発表しました。
この曲を初めて聴いたのはケビン・マホガニーの「Double Rainbow」というアルバムです。
好奇心旺盛な子供が舌足らずの言葉で父親にぶつける数々の質問と、息子の成長を願う父親の思いが表現された詞、そして乗りの良い旋律とアレンジで、直ぐにお気に入りの曲になりました。

斜体の字は子供のセリフの部分（機関銃のように投げかける質問）、対して普通字の部分が父親の思いが表現されところです。
オスカー・ブラウン・ジュニアのオリジナルは、子供のセリフの部分の歌い方が少し大げさすぎる感じがしないでもないです。
自分にとってはケヴィン・マホガニーのヴァージョンがベスト。
彼は、子供のセリフも軽く淡々と歌う一方で、バリトン・ヴォイスで父親の思いを雄弁に語るように歌い、巧みな歌い分けで自分にとってのお手本です。
女性が歌う『Dat Dere』も幾つかあるようですが、自分が気に入っているのは、笠井紀美子の「KIMIKO IS HERE」のヴァージョンです。
これは笠井紀美子がシダー・ウォルトン・トリオと共演した、新宿ピットインでの1974年のライブ録音です。
ベースの伴奏のみで歌う前半部分とトリオの伴奏で盛り上がる後半部分、ジャズ・フィーリングにあふれてナイス！です。
自分がこの曲を歌っていたのは父親になる前のこと。
子供達が成長しつつある今、改めて歌い直してみたい、懐かしい曲です。
